Many people who want to lose weight also want to drink alcohol. This is normal. What most people don?t understand is that alcohol affects weight loss greatly. I?m not saying to completely stop drinking but it?s definitely something that must be thought about.
Let?s get this out of the way firstly, calories consumed from alcohol are worth nothing. It will not provide you with any kind of value at all. There is no protein, no carbohydrates, no fats, nothing. The only use for alcohol is getting drunk. There are social benefits but there are no fitness benefits whatsoever.
However some alcoholic drinks do contain some nutrients. Wine contains antioxidants that help reduce stress and increase endorphins. Endorphins are the feel good chemicals found in your body. These chemicals are the reason why a lot of people feel a bit better after a glass of wine. Also, alcohol contains quite a lot of hidden calories. If you mix drinks, you could easily have a lot of calories from the sugar and other ingredients that are mixed in.
You could easily be consuming more than 400 calories per drink. It might not seem much but consider this, say you only needed to eat 2400 calories a day. You would have wasted 4000 calories that would not advance the weight loss process. This is where counting calories is useful.
When you count calories it?s much easier to stay on top of everything. It?s a lot harder when you?re not sure what you?re actually eating/drinking in a day. ?It?s not hard to figure this out. Most alcoholic beverages will have a sticker on the back that shows the calorie information. You can find this in most restaurants and bars. Nightclubs won?t give this information though, unless you order bottles. Also the weight loss?process is much slower after a long drinking session. One thing alcohol can be used for in terms of weight loss is the ability to look more ripped. Alcohol dehydrates you and when you drink something like a vodka shot your body will instantly get rid of the water weight.
If you didn?t have a 6 pack before, you won?t have one now but it definitely makes your body look a tiny bit leaner. It?s all about body fat. Your body is 70% water and if you manage to get rid of some water for a short period of time, it?s easy to look leaner. Many bodybuilders and fitness professionals do this. Well, not always with alcohol but many of them strip away body fat with water manipulation techniques. Using alcohol is one way of doing this.
But all in all, if you want to lose weight it?s best to stay away from alcohol. Or at least drink it in moderation.
